A Special Trip

In high school.Terry Fox was a popular and hardworking student.

在高中時(shí)代，特瑞佛克斯曾是一個(gè)受歡迎的、勤奮的學(xué)生。

He loved sports.He played on the school basketball team.

他喜愛運(yùn)動(dòng)。他在學(xué)校籃球隊(duì)打球。

When he was 18,Terry got cancer.The doctors had to take off his leg.

在他18歲的時(shí)候，他得了癌癥。醫(yī)生不得不將他的腿截肢。

Terry never gave up.He learned to walk and run with his new "leg".

特瑞從未放棄過。他用他的“新腿”學(xué)習(xí)走路，學(xué)習(xí)跑步。

Terry saw so many people sick with cancer in the hospital.

在醫(yī)院里，特瑞看到了很多患有癌癥的病人。

He wanted to run across Canada to get money for cancer research.

他想環(huán)繞加拿大跑步，來為癌癥患者募捐。

On April 12th,1980,Terry started a special trip across Canada.

在四月十二日，特瑞開始了一次環(huán)繞加拿大的特殊旅行。

Every day he ran about 42 kilometres.He ran on rainy days,windy days and hot sunny days.He ran through small villages and big cities.

每天他跑四十二公里。不論刮風(fēng)下雨還是炎熱的日子，他都堅(jiān)持跑步。他跑遍了小鄉(xiāng)村和大城市。

Terry ran for 143 days.It wasn't easy,but Terry kept running.

特瑞跑了143天。真的很不容易，但是特瑞堅(jiān)持跑著。

On September 1st,1980,Terry felt very sick.

在1980年9月1日，特瑞病得很重。

His doctors said that he had to stop his trip.Terry was very sad.

他的醫(yī)生告訴他必須停止他的旅程。特瑞非常傷心。

He wanted to keep running.The people of Canada were very sad,too.

他想繼續(xù)堅(jiān)持跑步。加拿大的人們也很難過。

They gave more and more money for cancer research.

They hoped Terry would get better and would start to run again.

Sadly,Terry died on June 28th,1981.He was 22 years old.

不幸的是，特瑞于1981年6月28日去世。年僅22歲。

Canadians did not forget Terry.

加拿大人民不會(huì)忘記特瑞。

Every September,in many towns and cities in Canada,there is the Terry Fox Run.

每年九月，加拿大許多城鎮(zhèn)和城市有一次紀(jì)念特瑞?？怂沟呐懿?。

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians,young and cold,run for Terry.

成千上萬的加拿大人們，不論年老年少都來通過跑步紀(jì)念特瑞。

They give money to find a cure for cancer.

Since 1981,they have given 300 million dollars.

The people of Canada were very proud of Terry.

加拿大人民以特瑞而自豪。

They gave him Canada's highest award.

人們給他以加拿大最高的獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)。

He was the youngest person ever to win this award.

它是目前獲得此獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)最年輕的一個(gè)人。

In 1999,Canadians named him Canada's greatest hero.

在1999年，加拿大人民將它命名為加拿大最偉大的英雄。
