一、定義
always,usually,often,sometimes,never等詞在英文中被稱(chēng)為“頻度副詞”，是用來(lái)表示動(dòng)作的頻率，但程度上有別.一般來(lái)說(shuō)按頻率大小排列為:
always＞usually＞often＞sometimes＞seldon（很少）＞never
二、位置
always,usually,often,sometimes,never等詞一般用在be動(dòng)詞、情態(tài)動(dòng)詞或助動(dòng)詞之后、行為動(dòng)詞之前。
I will never forget the first time I met you.
我將永遠(yuǎn)忘不了和你的第一次見(jiàn)面。
We often go there.
我們常去那兒。
Mary always help others.
瑪麗總是幫助別人。
She is sometimes very busy.
她有時(shí)很忙。
三、用法
1.always意為“總是，一直”，這是頻率最高的詞，表示動(dòng)作反復(fù)，狀態(tài)持續(xù)，不間斷。其反義詞是never,意為“從不”。如果要變成否定句，應(yīng)將always改為never才能全部否定。如：
Li Ping is always late for school.
李平上學(xué)總是遲到。
Li Ping is never late for school.
李平上學(xué)從不遲到。（全部否定）
Li Ping is not always late for school.
李平上學(xué)不總是遲到。（部分否定）
另外，當(dāng)always與進(jìn)行時(shí)態(tài)連用時(shí)，常表示“總是”，帶有厭煩、不滿(mǎn)或贊美等感情色彩。如：
The boy is always asking for money.
這個(gè)小男孩總是要錢(qián)。（表厭煩)
He is always thinking of others.
他總是想著別人。（贊嘆）
She is always asking silly questions.
她老是問(wèn)些愚蠢的問(wèn)題。（厭煩）
2.usually 意為“通?！?，表示習(xí)慣性動(dòng)作或狀態(tài)，很少例外。如：
We usually go to school at seven in the morning.
我們通常在早上起點(diǎn)上學(xué)。
My mother and I usualy go shopping on Sundays.
我和媽媽通常在星期天去買(mǎi)東西。
3.often 意為“經(jīng)常，時(shí)常”，表示反復(fù)性動(dòng)作或狀態(tài)，中間有尖端。其反義詞是seldom,意為“很少，不?！?。often 在句尾時(shí)常被very或quite修飾。如：
They boys often eat noodles and the girls sometimes eat them.
男生經(jīng)常吃面條，女生有時(shí)吃。
I often chant with my friends under the big tree.
我經(jīng)常在這棵大樹(shù)下和朋友聊天。
He writes to his friends quite often.
他常給他的朋友寫(xiě)信。
4.sometimes 意為“有時(shí)”，表示動(dòng)作偶爾發(fā)生，間隔較長(zhǎng)。其位置比較靈活，放在句首。句中，句末都可，如：
Sometimes we go to he cinema and at other times we go for a walk.
有時(shí)我們?nèi)タ措娪?，有時(shí)我們?nèi)ド⒉健?br> I sometimes watch TV in the evening.
我有時(shí)晚上看電視。
My father has lunch in the factory sometimes.
我父親有時(shí)在工廠(chǎng)吃午飯。
5.seldom 意為“很少，不常”，表示否定意義。如：
The little girl seldom goes out.
這個(gè)小女孩很少外出。
He seldom gives his wife a present,does he?
他不常給妻子送禮物，是嗎？
6.never 意為“從來(lái)不，從來(lái)沒(méi)事”也表示否定意義，它表示從未發(fā)生的動(dòng)作或情況，沒(méi)有例外。如：
The boys never eat chocolate and the girls seldom eat it.
男生從不吃巧克力，女生很少吃。

遲到（遲做）總比不來(lái)（不做）好。
另外，once a year(每年一次），twice a week (每周兩次），three times a day(一天三次），every Saturday afternoon(每星期六下午）等，這些時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)也表示頻率，它們可以和頻度副詞用在同一個(gè)句子中，表達(dá)上沒(méi)有重復(fù)。如：
We usually go to the cinema four times a month.
我們通常一個(gè)月看四次電影。
四，對(duì)這些頻度副詞提問(wèn)時(shí)，用how often，表示“多久一次”的意思。如：
I write to my brother sometimes.
→How often do you write to your brother?
I watch TV every Sunday evening.
→How often do you watch TV?
How often goes out for a walk after supper.
→How often does he go out for a walk after supper?
Andy feeds the little cat three times a day.
