8.stubborn adj.頑固的,固執(zhí)的(p18)
難處理的,難對(duì)付的;(?。╇y治好的
(as)stubborn as a mule 倔如犟驢,非常固執(zhí)的
The lock's rather stubborn;it needs oiling.
這把鎖很難開;得給它加點(diǎn)油了。
The old man has got a stubborn cough that has lasted for weeks.
9.Although she didn't konw(p18)the best way of getting to places,she insisted that she organize the trip properly.
although/though conj.雖然,盡管
引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句,不能再和however,but,and 連用,但可以和副詞yet,still連用;although 從句多放在主句前,though 從句則可放在主句前、中、后任何位置
Although/Though(he is)in poor health,he works hard.
though adv.但是,不過(放在句末)
這是份苦差事,可他還是接受了。
It was a hard job,he took it though.
Young though/as he is,he is very rich.
even though=even if
即使,縱然,盡管,雖然
as though=as if 仿佛...一樣,好像...似的
以上用法用不能用although.

insist v.堅(jiān)持(認(rèn)為),堅(jiān)決主張
insist on/upon doing sth.堅(jiān)決/堅(jiān)持做某事,堅(jiān)持認(rèn)為
I insisted on /upon an early reply.
The man insisted on finding a taxi for me even though I told him I lived neaby.(04江蘇)
他們堅(jiān)決要我留在那里吃飯。
They insisted on my staying there for supper.
insist on多用于堅(jiān)持意見,看法,主張等
stick to多用于堅(jiān)持原則,計(jì)劃,諾言,決定等(后不接動(dòng)名詞)
他答應(yīng)過幫助我們,他沒有失信。
He promised to help us and he stuck to his word.
*insist+that 從句
①“堅(jiān)決主張,堅(jiān)決要求”,從句中的事未發(fā)生,賓語從句用“(should)+動(dòng)詞原形”
She insisted that she [should](go to Beijing by air)as it was more comfortable.
②“堅(jiān)持說,強(qiáng)調(diào)說”,從句中的事已發(fā)生,用陳述語氣,按要求選擇時(shí)態(tài)
He insisted that he (was right).
He insisted that he (hadn't stolen)the money.
Mother insisted that her son be punished,but her son insisted that he hadn't done anything wrong.
