1.Can you find the following command and request from Reading?

1）command(commanded;commanded)
           v.命令,指揮
           n.命令,指令；掌握
（1）give commands 發(fā)出指令
     have a good command of 精通
 She has a good command of French language.
（2）command sb to do sth 命令某人做某事
 The policeman commanded him to stop.
（3）command that…+…(should)+do
  He commanded that we(should) keep silent.

2）request v./n.請求；要求
request sb for sth(request sth from sb)
向某人要求某物
She requested me for some water.
request sb to do sth 要求某人做某事
Gentlemen are requested not to smoke.

歸納:下列動詞所在的名詞從句和賓語從句用
should+do,should可以省略
一堅持 （insist）
二命令 （command,order）
三建議 （suggest,advise,propose）
五要求 （ask,require,request,desire,demand）
The teacher advised us that we(should) learn the text by heart.
It is suggested that you(should)not often stay up.

注意:
1.當(dāng)suggest表示“暗示,表明”,不用虛擬語氣,應(yīng)該用陳述語氣。
The smile on her face suggested that she was satisfied with our work.
What he said suggested he didn't like me.

2.當(dāng)insist表示“堅持說”“堅持認(rèn)為”時,應(yīng)用陳述語氣。
She insisted that she was right and that I should apologize for her.

Using Language

1.Believe it or not,there is no such thing as standard English.
信不信由你,（世界上）沒有什么標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語。
  1）Believe it or not,there will be a heavy rain tomorrow evening.
   Believe it or not,the exam is put off.
  2）such的用法:
  若such前的定語是no,one,all,most,some,any,another,many,much,a few,few,a little,little,several等,such應(yīng)位于這些詞之后,若為其他形容詞,such則置于這些詞之前。
There are many such books on sale in the bookstore.
There is no such person in our class.
There are such good books that I want to buy some.

2.This is because in the early days of radio,……
  This/That is because……這是/那是因為……。
  because在此句中引導(dǎo)表語從句。
He was late,and that's because he was held up in the traffic rush.
He wouldn't like to go out today;this is because he didn't feel well.

*若reason作主語,后面的表語從句要用that引導(dǎo)。
The reason why I didn't call you back is that I was busy yesterday.
The reason why he was late is that he had taken a wrong bus.

3.However,on TV and the radio you will hear differences in the way people speak.
然而,在電視上或收音機(jī)里,人們講的英語也有所不同。
若way作“方式；方法”講,后跟定語從句且在句中作狀語,則定語從句中的關(guān)系代詞可以是that,in which或省略。
I don't like the way(in which)you treat him.
He hated the way(that)he was treated.
He is very rude.Don't speak the way he did.
注意關(guān)系詞的選擇:
This is the way in which,that,/I did it.
The way which,that leads to my house is smooth.

4.American English has many dialects,especially the midwestern…
美國英語有許多方言,特別是中西部。
especially & specially
especially“尤其,特別地”,表示某事不尋常。
specially“特地的,專門地”,為某一特殊目的專門采用某一方式。

5.Geograghy also plays a part in making dialects.
地理位置對方言的產(chǎn)生也有影響。
1）play a part/role in 在……中起作用,擔(dān)任角色
He was lucky to play a part in the film directed by Zhang Yimou.
*Learning method plays an important part in English learning.
2）play the part/role of擔(dān)任……角色,起……的作用
He will play the part/role of chairman in my latest drama.

6.Although many Americans move a lot,they still recognize and understand each other's dialects.
1）recognize  vt.辨認(rèn)出；承認(rèn)；公認(rèn)
Do you recognize his handwriting?
2）recognize:短暫動詞,指原來很熟悉,經(jīng)過一段時間的間隔又重新認(rèn)出來。
know:延續(xù)動詞,指相互間十分熟悉,十分了解。
Although they hadn't met for many years,they recognized each other at first sight.
I have known him for 10 years.
